MEET THE PRODUCERS

Manyol

The highlands of Batea (in southern Catalonia) offer some of the best Terra Alta wines. In 2003 various grape-growers from the town decided to join forces, founding Viticultors Bateans, a cooperative committed to the cultivation of indigenous grape varieties, such as the Garnatxa Blanca (White Grenache). The cooperative now has almost forty members.

Viticultors Bateans opened their cellar in the Manyol estate in 2012; farmland located on the outskirts of the village of Batea which gives its name to the three wines that they bottle. The facilities were built close to the vineyard and this allows them to avoid oxidation of the fruit while preserving the organoleptic characteristics of the grapes during the harvest. Some of the crops are harvested by hand to select the best fruits at their optimum point of ripeness.

For vinification, stainless steel tanks or oak barrels are used (in the case of wines bottled in the same winery). Controlling the whole production process, from the cultivation of vineyards to bottling, is the key for offering an authentic wine; a wine based on tradition and the terroir.
