As much as drinking alone is frowned upon this is one of those cases that might just tempt you to do so. A medley of reds that are unwavering in their respect for mother nature and deliciousness.

Poggio del Moro is new to the UK and we fell for them straight off the bat. Their wines are unstuffy and provide that ‘something more’ that you always didn’t know you wanted but now do.

The Nittardi property once belonged to the Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti who, in 1549, while painting the Sistine Chapel, wrote to his nephew Lionardo: “I’d prefer two casks of wine rather than eight shirts.” Every year a new artwork adorns the label of their bottles.  Whether you are wearing a shirt or not the wine tastes picture-perfect.

Riecine di Reicine is careful and expertly executed winemaking with excellent grapes. What could go wrong? The answer is nothing in this case.

Some like a bath with a glass of wine, we would simply opt for a bath of these wines.

“Serious Sangiovese from Chianti that avoids the constraints of 'Classico' for all the right reasons. Red and black fruits, silky smooth, and with surprisingly low tannin, this is pretty unique winemaking. Properly delicious.”

    what producer says
Produced from grapes from the historical 1.5 ha Palmina vineyard which is ICEA certified as organic on the hillside of Riecine in Gaiole in Chianti. Soils are limestone and clay and vines average 40 to 45 years old. Harvested by hand and fermented with indigeneous yeast. Aged 50% in old tonneuax casks and 50% in concrete eggs and further aged for 6 months in bottle.

    Poggio del Moro Toscana Rosso

    hometipple team taste test...

“Don't be fooled by the somewhat generic name, this is proper wine, made properly and offering proper value for money. Dark and red berries, baking spice, smooth tannins and refreshing acid. We defy anyone to not love this wine. Decant and leave for an hour to let it really shine. It's awesome.”

    what producer says
The best grapes of Poggio del Moro vineyards are blended into this dry red wine. The blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah conveys a fruity-forward complexity on the nose, which unfolds with violet floral notes well-layered with cherry and plum jam, along with the mineral graphite, musk and a hint of black pepper. The palate shows a profound, luring consistency and a medium body palate with fresh, praiseworthy ripe juicy flavours wrapped into plum tannins. Tobacco, tealeaves and black cherry linger on a powerful, yet harmonious finish.

Nittardi Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa Chianti Classico DOCG

    hometipple team taste test...

“Serious Chianti Classicos require serious time. Either squirrel it away for 5-10 years or decant and leave it for 2 hours. What you'll be rewarded with is one of the great wines of the world, done brilliantly. This is a total beast, in the best way possible, and we LOVE that beast.”

    what producer says
Intensely redolent of cherries, violet and hints of aromatic herbs and spices on the nose. On the palate we find also an important darker fruit character paired with velvet tannins and a long-lasting finish driven an important structure and volume on the palate. This is an important. Excellently suited to all variations of pasta and meat dishes. Best served at approx. 16° C .
