“A round of applause for Kevin, please! We found so many fantastic things in this wine but to narrow it down, two words would be 'subtle' and 'sleek'. Oregano, basil but the Greek version, white pepper, ripe plums and something cherry cola-like going on. The list goes on but we just saw you yawn. Just pop it into your cart safe in the knowledge you will have done a good thing. Clap...Clap...”
“Serious Chianti Classicos require serious time. Either squirrel it away for 5-10 years or decant and leave it for 2 hours. What you'll be rewarded with is one of the great wines of the world, done brilliantly. This is a total beast, in the best way possible, and we LOVE that beast.”
“It's hard to consider this wine without ruminating on what utterly amazing value for money it is. SO much bang for buck - massive fruit, sweet spice, big, round lovely tannin, refreshing acid, loads of cherry flavours and a hint of black olives. This wine has so many layers. Fan-bloody-tastic.”
“Big reds are what the wine people of the Barossa make very well. And this wine is no exception. It is densely packed with dark, stewed fruits, pepper, dried herbs and pomegranate. Sinister stuff but we all have a dark side that needs sating. Mwahuhuhuhaaaa”
“La Vida - The Hungarian heavyweight that easily KO's the vast majority of Bordeaux. This is exceptional work. Deep dark fruits with tar, toast, eucalyptus and smoke on every mouth-filling and silken sip. Thumping.”
“Another Sangiovese from Chianti where the winemaker doesn't want to be shackled by the Chianti Classico regulations and has done his own thing. And what a thing he's done! Leather, smoke, dried cherry, blackcurrant, plums, liquorice, balsamic, clove, anise, dark chocolate, the finest of tannins and refreshing acidity. Just incredible. And it'll keep for a few years...”
“Concentrated, complex and enormously appealing, this is seriously good wine from a wonderful producer. Loads of lovely dark fruit, a rich, meaty leatheriness and bright, balancing acidity. Decant for an hour or two to help dial down the tannins a touch and you'll be richly rewarded.”
“Seven Hills Winery know their way around a Merlot grape that's for sure. This is masterfully concentrated with flavours of plums, leather, cigars, coffee, sweet spices. The acidity is high and cleans the mouth making you ready for more.”
“Drink it now or save or for later (ie 2030!), this is genuine quality from a top producer getting new and wonderful things from a variety often seen (and treated) as an old favourite. We can't think of anyone else making Syrah that tastes like this - elegant restrained and classy with great, slightly lifted fruit, super-fine tannins, excellent acid balance, spice and development. Tremendous.”
“Smooth as a vaseline covered chinchilla wearing a velvet smoking jacket and Gucci loafers. How do they get Pinotage to taste this awesome? Well done Post House. Nailing it.”
“The kind of thing that warrants drinking from a goblet, letting it run down the sides of your face and following it all up with a Brian Blessed belly laugh. Volume 11 in every aspect but all that noise is music to your and our ears. Blackberries, nutmeg and plums all hanging out next to an old country pub fireplace. Pull up a pew and do the laugh.”
“Like gliding down a purple-velvet-lined slide into a ball pit of forest fruit and sweet spices. Peter Franus - we are not worthy! Top. Notch.”
