“Big, bold, and gloriously indulgent – the Elegia Primitivo di Manduria Riserva from Produttori di Manduria is southern Italy in a glass. This DOC Primitivo hits with a heady nose of spiced stewed plums, cassis, and a touch of violet, all wrapped up in old leather and a wisp of tobacco. On the palate, it’s a proper flavour bomb. Think blackberry, cherry, currant, and even a swirl of strawberry sauce from a Mr Whippy van – juicy, rich, and just the right side of sweet. Warming notes of pepper, clove, and nutmeg bring balance, while supple tannins and a steady acidity stop the cooked fruit from stealing the show.
