In the UK it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday 19th March, a special day for everyone to celebrate the most important woman in their life, whether it’s your mum, grandma, mother-in-law or a special person you look up to.

If you’re searching for a bottle of something she’ll love, here are our top picks for the best wines to choose for Mothering Sunday so you can pop a cork to toast their wonderfulness.

These four wines are all great ideas for Mother’s Day. They each offer something unique and special and will show your mum or special someone that you care. Whether she prefers white or rose, light or full-bodied, there’s a wine on this list that will suit her taste.

1. Dom François Cartier Touraine Sauvignon Blanc (£14)

The first wine on our list is the Dom François Cartier Touraine Sauvignon Blanc. This classic Savvy B from the Loire is an easy-drinking, well-made wine for all occasions. It has a fresh smell of subtle gooseberries, pineapple, lemons, peaches and apricots with a hint of green pepper and pear drops and a little creaminess. For those who prefer a light and fruity white wine, this one’s a winner.

2. Maison Auvigue Mâcon-Villages (£16.50)

The Auvigue Macon Villages Le Moulin du Pont is a hidden gem that often goes unnoticed by wine lovers. It has a great texture and a fruitiness that balances the acidity perfectly. The smell is incredible too – ripe yellow apple and pear, ripe lemon with a little cantaloupe melon. This well-kept secret is sure to slip down dangerously easily, hitting all the right notes along the way.

3. Poggio del Moro Galio Rosé (£17.10)

This is a rosé to be savoured because it really is magic. It has flavours of cranberry, citrus, ripe, red apple and key lime pie. This pink has some beautiful texture as well as a little leafiness at the end, which keeps things interesting. This is ideal for mums who enjoy slowly sipping a crisp and refreshing rosé. Totally recommend.

4. Domaine Bernard Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Lechet (£29)

The is a truly exceptional Chablis. It’s a solid crowd-pleaser. It’s creamy, rich and full, but still with that characteristic Chablis minerality. Lemons, yellow apples and stone fruit hit your nose first. Then ripe apricot, which peach and honeysuckle join the party in your mouth. The long finish will keep you wanting sip after sip with hints of orange blossom and something a little tropical. All this is overlaid by a mellow, subtle toasty smokiness with echoes of warm buttered toast. Outstanding.
